‘Erotica in reading can also help to prevent crime!’
Stories the Anderson way

GRADY HARP

For those who have followed at least a few of the many books penned by British author Robin Anderson this
latest foray into the naughty adult tales will come as perhaps no surprise but will be welcomed with a least
a dozen raised eyebrows and several giggles on every page. As this reviewer has written before, `Robin
Anderson is a unique writer with no imitators: no one can write hilarious fiction with as many sexy zingers
and wild characters as he.' The words stand and are embellished by this loony foray into the short story
arena. Most all of his books are parodies of contemporary issues, and in the author’s portfolio he seems to
have witnessed them all!

The art of composing short stories requires the creator to magnetize the reader’s attention within the first few paragraphs, and snag that attention span through to the succinct finale. Anderson's ability to find character's names pushes the envelope on the Thesaurus - plays on words, names of extreme creativity pepper these entertaining tales – places him clearly in the forefront of contemporary authors of the ‘adult themed’ genre.

While each of the five shorties is a fine read, Robin inserts his own take on his chosen field of erotica by adding a ‘treatise’ he titles A DIVERTISEMENT: WHY I FIRMLY BELIEVE EVERYONE SHOULD READ EROTICA. Sharing a bit of this insert enlightens the nascent reader of what to expect in his stories: ‘Erotica is everywhere, albeit music, advertising, the cinema, everyday conversation and, of course, in one’s reading. Erotica and the written word have been - and dare I be so corny as to say it? – bedfellows since Day One. Why is the Bible story relating to Adam and Eve so fascinating? Because it is suggestive! Forget the other serpent: good old Adam couldn’t wait to get his own serpent “raring to go” and, judging from Eve’s capacity for multiplying, she found the alternative taste to the original Big Apple far more appetizing…’ And on and on – prickly ideas so beautifully presented that the reader becomes a true believer!

Each of the five short stories has an Anderson glow and each succeeds splendidly. This new book is another fast and completely satisfying read as we place a new book on Robin's growing shelf.
